The Taming Of The Shrew

Last night we saw the Bard in The Botanics production of The Taming of the Shrew. We had intended to go last Friday, but it got flooded.

We go and see one or two every summer - they are really fantastic! Highly recommended. This year they are also doing Macbeth and a three-man production of Richard III.

This one was probably the funniest I've seen - absolutely brilliant! The bit where Kate's suitor comes running to the wedding in a mashed-up superhero type outfit with a silly hat singing the Batman theme ("na-na na-na na-na na-na wed-ding!") cracked me up! And her finding it hilarious and running after them in a similar fashion!

I also loved the Glaswegian accent of his servant, and the Essex girl with a Yorkshire accent at the end :D. There's nothing quite like Shakespeare in a Glaswegian accent. The servant was very funny. Those two really stole the show.

There was also very good music - one of the songs was full of contrived rhymes so bad we were rolling around laughing, and the chorus was something about a dog being man's best friend. I must look it up! It was a crooner sort of song. I think it was implying that dogs are better than girls.
