The Corrie Dick Quintet

We were just down at Brel listening to the Corrie Dick Quintet - excellent group of up and coming musicians. On drums was Corrie Dick, on bass James Lindsay, on keyboard Derek Fairlie, on tenor Matthew Herd, and on trombone Kevin Garrity.

Of all the pieces we heard, the stand out ones were their own compositions, particularly Solstice, by the sax player. According to my reliable source, his saxophone setup was about as expensive as it gets! From my non-saxophone playing point of view - it looked nice *g*.

Lots of nice solos - we particularly liked the trombone solos - echoes of Fred Wesley there! Very nice. The funky cover of Summertime (with the Smooth Criminal bassline!) was particularly good.
